UK Trade & Investment invites companies to participate in a programme of events at WindPower 2010. A UK Group will be present at WindPower 2010 showcasing the UK’s excellence in the production of both offshore and onshore wind energy solutions.
WindPower 2010, organised by the American Wind Energy Association is an important global event and is the leading wind energy conference in the US. As the key event in the US wind energy calendar, WindPower 2010 is expected to attract over 23,000 visitors and 1300 exhibitors.
Opportunities in Wind Energy
The USA is Britain’s largest single export market and following on from President Obama’s proposed initiatives to secure America’s energy independence, the USA is currently addressing long-term challenges of sustainable development, global climate change and the development of renewable energy technologies.
Wind Energy is one of the fastest growing industries in the US. As of September 2009, the US wind industry has 31,109 MW of installed capacity in place, with 8,797 MW located in Texas. Texas leads the US in installed capacity with 8,797 MW. The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) has determined that two-thirds of the predicted growth of wind energy generation in the US will continue to occur in Texas, as three of the five largest wind farms in the nation are located in the state.
With the announcement of Round 3, Offshore wind is becoming a much talked about topic among companies in the Energy Industry. While Europe, especially the UK is a leader in offshore wind, the US currently does not have any operational offshore wind projects, although a number of projects are moving through the development process. The Department of Energy’s report on the "20% Wind Energy Scenario" found offshore wind capacity could produce 54 GW of the 300 GW envisioned.
